noun
1. one of an Asian breed of sheep used primarily for the production of lambskin. Black is the prevailing colour of the lambs, but the fleeces of the old sheep turn to various shades of brown and grey.
2. the skin of the very young offspring of this type of sheep, dressed as a fur resembling astrakhan but with flatter, looser curl.
Also, caracul. {named after Kara Kul (Turkic for 'Black Lake'), in Uzbekistan, where the breed originated}
